Abundance in Light, a non-profit organization led by women and youth, organized a sanitary pad distribution drive at Kwa-Thema Primary School on October 28. The drive aimed to not only distribute essential sanitary products but also to educate and empower girls with menstrual hygiene knowledge and dignity.
Kgopotso Radebe, the founder, director, and facilitator of the non-profit company, emphasized that one in four young girls who menstruate misses school every month due to a lack of menstrual products. The initiative’s goal is to provide necessary sanitary products to girls of menstrual age while simultaneously promoting education on hygiene practices to combat period poverty.
The drive was deemed successful, with nearly 100 girls from Kwa-Thema Primary School participating. Radebe expressed satisfaction, particularly highlighting the positive cooperation from parents.
During the event, the emotional impact of the topic was evident, triggering a strong response from one of the girls. Radebe assured her that the space was safe and supportive, surrounded by people who genuinely cared for and supported her. By the end of the workshop, the girl, like the others, was happy and reassured.
Radebe extended gratitude to the community and individuals for their donations to the drive. The non-profit organization remains open to further donations that can assist girls in need. For those interested in contributing, they can contact Radebe at 063 977 4519.
